Minimum Support Price 2022-23: The government buys farmers’ crops at a certain minimum price, known as the Minimum Support Price (MSP). It can be determined annually by the government or based on the crop season. The MSP for Kharif crops has recently been established by the Central Government. The increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for a number of Kharif crops for the Kharif Marketing Year 2022-23 has been approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCAE), which is headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Modi government has made this decision in the farmers’ best interest, ensuring that farmers will receive a fair minimum price for their crops. Paddy, maize, Bajra, Arhar Dal, Moong, Urad, Groundnut, and Cotton are among the other Kharif crops for which all farmers will now receive higher MSP prices. According to Union Minister Anurag Thakur, farmers will be more motivated and able to choose which crop to grow if they know the MSP before sowing Kharif crops.
The Minimum Support Price is the base cost for any crop that the public authority gives to the ranchers. The government cannot purchase the crop for less than this amount. The central government currently pays the minimum support price for 23 crops. Which includes seven kinds of cereal, five types of pulses, seven types of oilseeds, and four types of commercial crops. Consumers are guaranteed a price that is subsidized by the Minimum Support Price. The MSC for agricultural crops like cereals, pulses, oilseeds, and commercial crops is announced annually by the government after consideration by the respective state governments and central departments.
