 Mulayam Yadav was born on 22 November 1939 to Murti Devi and Sugar Singh Yadav. He came into the world in the township of Saifai in the Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh. Mulayam Singh Yadav completed his early education in Saifai.  Mulayam Singh Yadav after completing his primary and secondary education attended Karmakshetra Post Graduate College in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh to obtain a Bachelor of Arts in Politics. After completing his bachelor’s degree at AK College, Shikohabad, he moved to Agra to complete his graduation.  He attended BR College, Agra for his master’s degree.

He did BA, BT, and MA in Political Science from Karmakshetra Post Graduate College in Etawah (UP), Adarsh ​​Krishna (PG) College in Shikohabad (UP), and Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University in Agra, Uttar Pradesh.  When he completed his college education, he started working as a lecturer in Karhal, Uttar Pradesh.

Mulayam Singh Yadav Political Career

 Mulayam Singh Yadav was influenced by the principles of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia. He was involved in politics since the age of 15 and got a chance to meet Janeshwar Mishra, Ram Sevak Yadav, Karpoori Thakur, and many others. In 1962, Mulayam was elected as the President of the Students’ Union at AK College, Shikohabad, Uttar Pradesh.  Mulayam joined the “Janata Dal” in 1960.  In 1967, he was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Uttar Pradesh. He served as MLA 8 times. In 1977, he became the Minister of State for the 1st time. He was appointed as the President of Janata Dal in 1980.

 In 1982, Yadav was appointed as the Leader of the Opposition in the UP Legislative Council.  He served in this position till 1985. The Janata Dal split in 1985. Mulayam Singh Yadav along with Chandrashekhar and CPI started a “revolutionary front”. In the year 1989, Mulayam became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for the first time.

In 1992, Mulayam formed the Samajwadi Party (SP).  He formed an alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in the 1993 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections and won. He was appointed as the Chief Minister of UP for a second term. He had the support of Congress and Janata Dal. He served as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh until June 1998, when his allies pulled out of the alliance.

 In 1996, Yadav contested and won the general election from the Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency of Uttar Pradesh.  He was appointed as the Union Defense Minister in the United Front coalition government. The government fell again, and in 1998, Yadav was elected as an MP from the Sambhal Lok Sabha constituency of Uttar Pradesh.  In 1999, when the government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee fell, Yadav contested the general elections from the Sambhal and the Kannauj constituencies of Uttar Pradesh.  He won both seats and then resigned from the Kannauj seat for his son Akhilesh Yadav;  Who then contested the by-election from the Kannauj Lok Sabha constituency.

 Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away on 10 October 2022 after deteriorating health, and he was suffering from a prolonged illness. He died at the age of 82 in Gurugram, Haryana, India. The Uttar Pradesh government has announced three days of state mourning on his death.  His funeral will be held with full state honors at Saifai village, Etawah district, Uttar Pradesh, India.
